Metadata Manager

A tool to manage parameters and keywords

Metadata is information about the data that gives context to the experiment you are working with.  Typically that information is provided through keywords, which can be added to your FCS (Flow Cytometric Standard) files at the time of collection using the acquisition software or post-acquisition in FlowJoTM. All cytometers automatically store minimal information in keywords, which are short strings of text added to the header of FCS files, identified by letter codes. The list of keywords required by the FCS standard is available here.

The Metadata Manager is organized into three sections accessed by tabs: keywords, parameters, and parameters sets.

Keywords

The keywords tab (Figure 1.1), provides a list of all of the keywords associated with all of the files in the currently selected group.  Keywords can be viewed, edited, added, or imported in this context.  Visit the Keywords Metadata Manager page for instructions on how to do this.

Parameters

The parameters tab (Figure 1.2) provides a list of the all of the parameters associated with all of the files in the currently selected group.  Parameters can be viewed or edited.  Visit the Parameters Metadata Manager page for instructions on how to do this.

Parameter Sets

Parameter sets are groups of parameters, some included by default in the software and others created by you.  They can be extremely useful for navigating high-parameter experiments.  The parameter sets tab allows you to create, edit, or delete sets of parameters.  Visit the Parameter Set Metadata Manger page for instructions on how to do this.
